Walter Edward Dugger, 77, of Canton Ohio died on July 14, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Walter was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 4, 1940 but spent most of his childhood in the greater Detroit area. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1958 and attended Michigan State University. He was a Corporal in the United States Army as a dog handler for the military police and was stationed in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey (B 5/7 ADA). It was there that he met his loving wife Anne, and they were married August 31, 1964 in Rockford, Illinois. He started his career with the J.I. Case Company before ultimately settling in Canton, Ohio and founding and managing his own business, the Bookkeeping Service Company, for nearly 50 years. Walter proudly served as a Plain Township Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician for 34 years eventually retiring as a Captain. He served two separate times as Plain Township Clerk. He was the treasurer for the Ridgedale Property Association for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing golf with his son. Walter is survived by his wife Anne, his two children James L. Dugger (Lynn) and Mary E. Dodge (Trever) and two grandchildren Nathan and Elise Dodge. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Welford Dugger and Eugenia Barklage Dugger. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Andrew Taylor-Peck officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Avenue N.W.
