Virginia Lee Dougan, “Ginger” age 75 of Canton, passed away in Mercy Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Canton on January 8, 1947, to Orlo and Ruth (Mauerman) Mallery and was a graduate of Lehman High School. Following high school, she attended Aultman School of Nursing, The University of Akron, and Case Western Reserve University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in social work. Ginger spent her career working in the mental health field of social work, recently working with Psychology Consultants Inc. She was active in Westbrook Park United Methodist Church and Crossroad’s United Methodist Church playing in the bell choirs and singing in the choir. Ginger was a member of the North Canton Playhouse where she served on the board, acted in plays, and volunteered as needed. Ginger served her community though singing with “A Chorus for a Cause”, where each show raised money for a specific organization with a need.
Ginger is survived by her husband Gary; daughters Melissa (Lee) Childs and Amy (Chris) Papatoukakis; grandchildren Michael and Megan Childs and Ella Papatoukakis; sister Pam Mallery; and sister-in-law Pat (Larry) Miller
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 31 in the Arnold Funeral Home at 1517 Market Ave N. from 4-6 PM. Funeral service will begin at 6 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Don Ackerman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North Canton Playhouse.
