Sandra K. Swinehart, 74, of Canton passed away on September 6, 2023, at Aultman Hospital. She was born October 7, 1948, in Dover to Lester and Vesta (Hupp) Anderson and graduated from Garaway High School in 1966.
Having graduated from the School of Hard Knocks, Sandy went back to school in her mid-40’s and was proud to have earned her LPN certification. She was a kind and compassionate nurse until her retirement from Walnut Hills Retirement Community in 2016.
Sandy is survived by a dysfunctional clan of women that she was immeasurably proud of. Her daughters were the axis that her world spun around: Erin Slemmer (Daniel Sickels), Abby (Phillip) Alexander, and Randi (Rick) Peters. Her grand daughters were the joy of her Golden Years: Joey Slemmer, Tess and Sophie Alexander, and Anne and Charlotte Peters. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Ardith, Leslie, and Keith, and survived by her son Walter Wallace III.
Mom was the moral compass of her family and lived her life with integrity. She painstakingly taught us right from wrong – and we learned quickly that her way was always right. Life often dealt her a hard hand. She was widowed early and a two-time cancer-survivor. She had an incredible resiliency, a strength to call forth in times of difficulty, that we often relied on to carry us through. She was obstinate and facetious and if you decided to push your luck and butt heads with her, you better come with a helmet.
In the end, she would be pleased to know that, as usual, she was right: “Life ain’t always a bowl of cherries… Sometimes, it’s a bucket of sh*t with the handles on the inside.”
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time.
