Roger D. Witmer passed away Friday, September 30, 2023. Roger was born to Leo and Catherine Witmer of Ashland, Ohio.
During the Korean War, he proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Carpenter, where he witnessed a practice detonation of an atomic bomb. After the Navy, he returned to Ohio and worked as a business repairman for both Stebbins and Accurate Business Machine companies. He enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns, and Buckeyes.
He was preceded in death by sisters Jane, Mary, Margaret, Portia, Glenna, and Eilene, also brothers Philip, Sam, and Dick. He is survived by Connie (Pontius), his wife of 67 years, sons Robert of Canton and Ross (Marie) of North Carolina and grandchildren Robert, Roger, and Crystal all from North Carolina.
Calling hours will be at Grace UCC, 2300 Cleveland Ave. N., between 1:00 and 2:00 on Sunday, October 22, followed by a Memorial service. A military burial will be at the Ohio Military Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville OH, on Monday, October 23, at 2:45 pm.
