Roberta (Bobbie) Dowell Obituary

Roberta (Bobbie) Lee Dowell passed away May 20, 2021 at the Aultman Compassionate Care Center. She was born in Huntington, WV on January 25, 1931, to Grace and Paul Watts. She lost both parents when she was 4 years old and was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Harry Watts, also of Huntington WV. After graduating from Huntington High School, she attended and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, majoring in Retailing and Fashion Design. She then became a Buyer for Brown's Clothing Store in Huntington. On April 5, 1952, she married her "Cousin" Harold R. Dowell (a son of her adopted mothers sister), a Medical School student at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. They had four children, Douglas, Markham, Deborah, and Michael. After four years in Medical School, a year in a Rotating Internship at City Hospital in Springfield, Ohio and two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, KY., they set up home and a General Practice with Obstetrics in Canton, Ohio. They were blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bobbie was a Real Estate person for several years while in Canton. In 1987, they moved full time to Naples, Florida, to Foxfire Golf and Country Club after six years of part-time visitations at Foxfire.

Bobbie enjoyed playing bridge and golf (she had 4 holes-in-one!) with her many friends, tending her many orchids and other plants, her time at the beach (she loved the sun!), reading and dancing. She traveled to all 50 of the United States, and all of the Provinces and Territories of Canada, many islands of the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bahamas, and Costa Rica and Mexico - Birding in all of them and becoming very proficient at their ID's - especially while they were in flight! She could be appropriately labeled a proficient amateur ornithologist!

She was no slouch in the kitchen (often being requested for copies of her recipes) as a house keeper either! All of our living quarters were always immaculate.

Bobbie was pre-deceased by her adopted parents, Dorothy and Harry Watts, husband Harold, and her second son Markham William Dowell.

Her happiest moments were spent with visitations, phone calls, computer messages, mail and cards from and with the fortunate clan she established! We'll all miss her beyond expression!

As she wished, following cremation, there will be private services in Canton, Ohio with burial at North Lawn Cemetery - amongst the rest of us - all with great expectations!
