Richard (Skip/Dick) Eugene Anthony, age 80, on Friday, April 8th, departed from us into the loving embrace of his heavenly father. Skip was a beloved father, grandfather and friend who loved sports, his family, his firefighter brethren, his church and socializing with his with friends.
Skip proudly served as a Canton City Firefighter Local # 249 for 28 years and was part of the first Ambulance class trained in the city. He enjoyed every moment of his career and as a retiree was on the board of the Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio. Skip’s career also included more than 30 years at the Canton AAA Ohio Auto Club as a dispatcher then later as a manager. He was also a proud military member and served in the Army then the Reserves for six years.
His faith and service were extremely important to him and he was a lifelong member of Church of the Savior then Crossroads United Methodist Church where he served on various boards and committees as well as volunteering his time.
Skip was an avid sports fan and loved to share his love and knowledge of the game through coaching and umpiring; nothing brought him more joy then seeing others succeed. He was a lifelong Cleveland Sports fan, loved Friday Night High School Football games and was a member and supporter of The Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club.
Preceded in life by his father Clarence, mother Leona, his brother Tommy and beloved wife Gayle (Spicher). Skip is survived by sons, Dave (Jeanne) and Rich (Dawne); daughter Debbie, and grandchildren Chris and Miranda; as well as his loving brothers Ted (Linda) and Ed (Mary); and sisters Vickii (Ron) and Pam (Ike) along with numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday April 15th at Crossroads United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday April 14th 5:00 – 7:00 at the Arnold Funeral Home 1517 Market Ave. N., Canton, Ohio 44714. The Last Alarm Service will be immediately following the calling hours.
