Philip Schiffbauer Obituary

Philip Schiffbauer age 79 of Hartville passed away Friday morning, January 15, 2021, at his home with his wife of 54 years, Jo-Ann by his side. He was born January 15, 1942 to Paul and Josephine Marie (Powell) Baskett. Following the death of his father, Paul Baskett, Philip was adopted by Edward Schiffbauer. Philip was a member of New Life Episcopal Church in Uniontown. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Malone College. Phil is also survived by his two foster sons, L. Matthew Lee and Richard Keller. Cremation has taken place and, due to the pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations are requested to New Life Episcopal Church, 13118 Church Ave NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 or Hartville Fire Department 411 E. Maple St, Hartrville, Ohio 44632.

Phil’s post-graduate education was at Huron College (University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario) and Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. More recently Phil participated in Education for Ministry (EfM), a four-year program in practical theology. Philip was interested in conservation, the environment, and organizations such as the Arbor Day Foundation, the Audubon Society, and the Sierra Club. He enjoyed reading the Bible, astronomy, the environment, church history, archaeology. As an avid reader he supported the FOL (Lake Community Friends of the Library), helped with some of their activities, and served on their board of directors. He worked at the Senior Center in Lake Township, helped with some of their activities, and served on their Board of Directors. Being involved with the Lake Township Historical Society was important. He enjoyed helping with activities and serving on the board. He especially enjoyed helping with Hartville’s Evening in the Village. He appreciated the Hartville Fire Department which was very helpful to Phil and to our family through the years. He was an excellent photographer. He enjoyed working at two local photography stores, Waltz the Camera Man in Canton and Metzger’s in Akron, and taking wedding photos for friends. He had a green thumb for growing plants and an interest in all types of plants. He grew beautiful bromeliads and orchids and played some with bonsai. Phil felt it was important to be part of a community of believers, serving others, and worshipping an awesome God.

Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the New Life Episcopal Church, 13118 Church Ave. NW, Uniontown. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
