Patrick Thomas Bearer 1938- 2022

Patrick Thomas “Pat” Bearer of Fairlawn, OH passed peacefully at age 84 on May 16, 2022, after a brief period of illness. A straightforward man, Pat was easily entertained, easily impressed, and contented with the ebb and flow of everyday life. He was blessed with an indefatigable work ethic and seldom, if ever, complained about anything.

Pat spent his entire life as a resident of the Akron area, having graduated from Akron Central High School in 1956. A long-time member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Pat spent much of his working career in the trucking industry. He got his start with All States Trucking, which in subsequent years became a part of Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E.), with whom he remained for more than two decades before ultimately moving on to Consolidated Freight (CF). After ‘retiring’ the first time in 1995, he continued working for the City of Fairlawn in the Street Maintenance Division, from which he truly, finally retired in 2009.

He nurtured several hobbies throughout his life, including wine- and beer-making, classical music and opera, local history, and genealogical research. Outside of his family however, his greatest passion in life was for football, which he played as a youth, and followed intensely throughout his life. Many happy Sundays were spent watching football in the company of close family. A dedicated fan of the Cleveland Browns, he never gave up hope that next year might be ‘the one’...

Born the second youngest of eight to Elmer and Margaret Bearer (née Kirkpatrick), Pat is preceded in death by his seven siblings, Jane, Joe, Rita, Edna, Elsie, Doris, and Paul; as well as his grandson, David Matthew Geisendorfer. He will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 63 years, Gail (née Meyer); his three children Mark (Kathy) Bearer, Laura (Bruce) Geisendorfer, and Dave (Judy) Bearer; his six grandchildren Dr. Christine (John) Arnold & Michael Bearer (Dr. Christine Bacha, fiancée), Andrew (Kelcey) & Nicholas Geisendorfer, and Matthew & Melissa Bearer; his two great-grandchildren Jack & Chip Arnold; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

While we grieve his passing, we celebrate his life and legacy. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 10:30AM at St. Hilary Parish (2750 West Market Street Fairlawn, Ohio 44333) with a funeral Mass beginning at 11:30AM. The family kindly requests that attendees wear masks. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron. Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
