Mitchell Souers, age 92 of Canton South, passed away Wednesday morning March 8, 2023, in his home with family by his side. He was born August 4, 1930, in Louisville to Lester C and Irene (Ebie) Souers. Mitchell graduated from Louisville High School in 1948 and started working at U.S. Steel where he served as a clerk and machine shop foreman. Mr. Souers was an active and devoted member of First United Church of Christ/ First Church of the Resurrection, serving on numerous committees and boards including Sunday school teacher for adults and kids and on consistory. He also served on the Canton Township Board of Zoning Appeals, past president of the Canton South Choir and Band Boosters, was a lay leader for East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus and for many years worked with Kairos and Epiphany Prison Ministries.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly J. Souers in 2016; survived by wife Judy (Schneider) Souers; sons, Daryl (Dawn) Souers, Denis (Pam) Souers, Duane (Charlotte Souers); grandchildren Derek & Heidi, Dustin & Elizabeth, Kristin & Austin, Cole, Jenna & David Powers, Ryan & Laura Thompson Souers, Adam & Alia, Jason & Laura Fenno Souers; great grandchildren, Christina and Daniel, Broden and Maelyn, Aida, Breanna, Ryker, Nicholas, Benjamin and Madelyn; sisters, Beverly Raebel, Gail Linerode, Vicki Postelwaite; brother, Sanford “Sam”; and Mitch’s step children. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Janice McLaughlin, Nadine Klitz; brothers Nevin and Mark.
Calling hours will be Friday 3-6:00 pm. At the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave N. Funeral services will be Saturday 12:00 noon in First Church of the Resurrection 901 Tuscarawas Street East with Pastor JR Rozko officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Garden. Memorial donations are requested to absolute Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
