Obituary

Marylu S. Byrom, age 101, passed away Thursday April 20, 2023. Born in Perkasie, Pennsylvania to the late James and Mabel (Weidemoyer) Schatz. Marylu graduated from Sellersville-Perkasie High School where she was a star basketball player on the 1938/39 Bucks-Mont championship team. She lived and worked in New York City after high school. When WWII broke out she enlisted in the Navy, as a Wave, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor serving as a Storekeeper.  After the war Marylu attended Pennsylvania State University receiving a BA in education. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She met fellow Nittany Lion John Byrom and they were married after graduation. Marylu and John moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, raising two children. They ultimately made Canton, Ohio their home. An avid reader, Marylu also enjoyed gardening, crafts, and cooking. 

In addition to her parents, Marylu was preceded in death by her husband, John, sister Shirley Weisenborn and brother Jack Schatz. She is survived by her children, Christina M. Byrom of Vermont and John F. Byrom of New York City.

A graveside service and Military Honors will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at North Lawn Cemetery.
