Mary Jane Schellhase, age 95, of Canton, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18th at Windsor Medical Center in North Canton after a long illness. Mary Jane was born November 25, 1926, in Dayton, Ohio to Raymond V. and Margaret B. Lorentz. She graduated from Lehman High School in 1944 and attended Kent State University from 1945 to 1947. She worked as a buyer for C.N. Vicary Company of Canton. Mary Jane married William R. Schellhase on August 1, 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1997 and her daughter, Christianne L. Nauman in 1999.
Mary Jane was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served in numerous capacities including lector, leader of Women’s Bible Study, Sunday school teacher and was a weekly volunteer in the Trinity church office for over ten years. She was active in several civic organizations including United Way, Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital and McKinley Museum Auxiliary. She was a member of PEO, Chapter AC, Canton Women’s Club (past president of Jr. Women’s Club), a 50-year member of Delta Chapter OES, and a past member of Brookside Country Club.
We wish to thank the members of Trinity United Church of Christ for all their loving support for Mary Jane through prayers, visits and cards. As well, thanks to the staff of Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care of Mary Jane over the past three years.
Per Mary Jane’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held on Monday, September 26th at 11:00 am at North Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Darlene Garber of Canton and Rev. Andrew Taylor Peck of Trinity United Church of Christ officiating.
