Margaret "Peg" Miller Obituary

Margaret “Peg” L. Miller, age 95 of Canton, passed away January 12, 2022, Born in Bolivar, Ohio to the late William and Margaret (Becher) Cushing, she was an active member of the Canton community most of her life.  Peg was a writer and photographer for the Canton Repository from 1944-1955, Recreation Director for the Canton, YWCA 1966-1973, became the co-owner and manager of Gymnastics of Ohio Inc. in 1973-1978, was president of the Players Guild Theatre 1970-1971 and then voted honorary life member in 1972.  She was on the Board of Trustees of the Cultural Center for the Arts 1970-1973, manager of North Canton Park Centre Indoor Tennis Club 1974-1981, and founder and player of Canton Women’s Team Golf 1989-2010.  In 1992 she founded Stark County Women’s Amateur Golf Association (SCWAGA) and served as president 1993-2003. Peg was Tam O’Shanter Golf Course Women’s Golf Champion 1989-1990, 1991-1992 and 1996-1997 and women’s golf champion and president of Sandridge Golf Course, Vero Beach, Florida 1993-1996. In 2011 she was inducted into Stark County Golf Hall of Fame and in 1996 Peg was a Hall of Fame Inductee of the Greater Stark County Tennis Association. She was also a member of Vero Beach Museum of Art and Vero Beach Art Club.  Peg enjoyed painting with watercolor and acrylics as well as selling her original paintings, note cards and prints. Peg was author, illustrator and publisher of a children’s book, A Dog’s Story.

Peg is survived by her sons, William S. Miller (Jennifer) of Cincinnati, OH and Doyle G. Miller (Dana) of Canton, OH; granddaughters, Dr. Lindsay Miller (John) of Berkley, CA, Dr. Karly Miller of Santa Barbara, CA, Ariel Miller of Cincinnati, OH and Mrs. Chelsea Miller-Lyell (Alex) of Toledo, OH; step granddaughters, Kim Ziebold and Ashley Judy of Cincinnati, OH; niece, Joji Goto of Boston, MA; nephew, Kai Goto of Providence, RI; cousins, Thomas Cushing of Carrollton, OH, Paul and Tim Cushing of Chicago, IL, Dr. William D. Becher of Ann Arbor, MI and Great Grand Daughter Audrey Edmiston of Berkley, CA.
