Linda Psomiades Obituary

On September 2, 2021, the world lost one of its earthly angels, Linda K. Psomiades, age 74, who went to heaven after a long battle with dementia. Linda was born on April 11, 1947 to Carl R. ‘Bud’ and Jeanne Lothamer in Canton, Ohio.   A 1965 graduate of Glenwood High School, she then completed her degree in French and Psychology at Malone College. Eventually she received a Master’s Degree of Education from Ashland College in 1986.  Linda’s amazing career spanned from teaching French at Glenwood High School, to teaching elementary special education in Chicago Public Schools, to various roles at Osnaburg Local Schools from 1974-1985.  Linda spent the last 30+ years of her passionate career in Plain Local as the Gifted Coordinator and Director of Pupil Personnel.  In Linda’s application to Plain Local Schools she wrote “I love the profession of teaching, and feel that I can change the world in some minute way by affecting a child’s desire to learn and grow.”  Linda changed the world and the lives of hundreds of children in a big way with her quiet but unfailing advocacy on their behalf.

On August 23, 1970, Linda married Pericles S. (Perry) Psomiades who preceded her in death along with her parents, and brothers, John and Peter Lothamer. She is survived by a daughter, Mindy Ickes and grandson Beckham whom she adored.  Linda is also survived by her companion of over twenty years, John Eisenhut.  In addition, she is survived by extended family and many friends who loved and admired her.

Linda was a gift to everyone who met her. She gave away love, kindness, and compassion to humans and animals alike, especially her beloved cat Luna.  She was known for her homemade baklava and Godiva chocolates at Christmas and her beautiful singing voice.  Each gift Linda gave was wrapped in bold beautiful colors with a stunning bow.  She was an avid reader of science, education, and current events. She loved participating in her many bible study groups, continuing her love for learning. Linda was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church and lived a life of faith.

The family would like to thank the four wonderful caregivers who gave Linda love, respect, and compassion during the difficult days of her illness.   They are Amber, Aubrey, Beth, and Pam. In addition, thank you to Grace Hospice and her nurse Mandy for their care and guidance.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, September 9, from 3-5 pm with a memorial service celebrating Linda at 5 pm with long-time friend, Bill Quigley, officiating, at Arnold & Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave., NW, Canton.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 10, at 11 am, at North Lawn/Cemetery Mausoleum.
