Laura Marie Salem, 94, and lovingly referred to as “Grammie”, wife of the late William Salem, died Saturday, April 24, 2021 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her treasured family.
She was born in Michigan City, In., to the late Lawrence and Iva Mae Acuff. Laura was a 1945 graduate of Akron Buchtel High School.
Laura loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless others who called her “Grammie”. She loved planting flowers in the yard, flower boxes and in anything else that could hold them. She received Beautification awards from the City of Akron for creating a beautiful yard in the middle of the inner city. She loved sports and could talk statistics and players with anyone. Most importantly, her home was filled with abundant love and countless memories.
In addition to her parents, and husband, who she called the “Love of her life”, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Col. Gerald Acuff.
Laura is survived by her sons, William (Wendy Friedman) Salem and Steven Salem, daughter Christine (Jay) Snyder; grandchildren Gretchen (Michael) Milec, Leah (Kevin) Vaughn, Julian Salem, Jocelyn (Moses) Siakula, Derek (Rebecca) Snyder, Michael Salem, and Marissa (Tyler Sebastian) Salem; great grandchildren Ella, McKenna and Mitchell Vaughn, Kadence and Beckett Salem, Charlotte Snyder and Apphia Siakula; nephews Jerry, Jeff, Joel and Jon Acuff; and special great niece and great nephew, Laura Bellucci and Steven Boggs.
To celebrate her life and, per her very specific wishes, the family will gather at a later date to share memories filled with laughter, eat Swenson’s hamburgers, drink vanilla milkshakes, and listen to Frank Sinatra. So have a burger and shake and listen to some Frank Sinatra in honor of Grammie! Please sign the tribute wall and view the photo slideshow at www.arnoldfuneralhome.com.
