Jean Peterson Obituary

Jean I. Peterson (Fewell), age 98, of North Canton, passed away August 11, 2022. Born March 15, 1924, in Marlboro Township, to the late Benjamin F. Fewell and Elta Amelia (Shatzer) Fewell. Jean graduated from McKinley High School in 1942. When the war was over and the love of her life, the late Walter E. Peterson, returned home from the Army Air Corps, they married in 1945. Together they built a happy home and raised 2 boys in Canton Ohio. Jean dearly loved kitty cats, was an avid reader and hobbyist of crossword puzzles, bingo, Cleveland baseball and traveling to casinos with her life long friend Valerie Peterson. More than anything else she enjoyed spending time and laughing with her family. Jean was a lifelong member of The United Church of Christ in Canton. After retirement Jean and Walter enjoyed winters in Bradenton, Florida with relatives and newfound friends. After Walter’s death, Jean moved to the Alsatian in Louisville, making new friends, and remained there until moving in with her son, Roger.

In addition to her parents and husband of 69 years, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Gene Peterson, her 3 brothers, Lloyd, Sheldon, and Richard Fewell and 2 sisters, Doris “Dodi” (Fewell) Haas and Virginia Mae (Fewell) Franz. Jean is survived by son, Roger Peterson and daughters-in-law Gloria (Roger Peterson) of North Canton and Lynda (Gene Peterson) of Canton; 3 granddaughters, Valerie Pape of Louisville, Jennifer Peterson of Toledo, and Johanna Peterson of Louisville; and 3 great-grandsons, Travis, Damon, and Evan Pape of Louisville.

Funeral service will be 1 pm Tuesday August 16, 2022, in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W., with Pastor Sandy Hutchinson officiating.
