Jean E. Bender Jean E. Bender, 95, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021. She was born August 5, 1925, in Irondale, OH to the late Elmer and Margaret Golden and was the oldest of six children. She was married for 67 years to Lester Bender, who passed away in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her sister Dora Ernst of Cincinnati.
Jean was happiest when surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving daughters Dr. June (Galen) Stoll of Hartville and Shirley (Steve) Dobry, and five grandchildren: Jeff (Karla) Stoll of Seabrook, TX; Brian Stoll of New York City; Christa (Jason) Magda of Stuttgart, Germany; Dr. Ann Dobry of Atlanta; and Charles Dobry of Cleveland Heights. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she was proud of each of them. She is also survived by her sisters Alice Zoller of Florida and Margaret Hutton of Cincinnati and brothers Walter Golden of East Liverpool and William Golden of Ft. Thomas, KY.
Jean was a longtime member of First Mennonite Church in Canton and was their oldest member. She was employed at Country Lawn Nursing Home and Cloth World, and she was awarded several medals for swimming in the YMCA’s Senior Olympics. Jean enjoyed studying the Bible, working jigsaw puzzles, coloring, reading, playing Bingo, and watching Jeopardy.
Private family committal services were Monday July 19, in Beech Mennonite Cemetery in Louisville.
A public memorial service will be held Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville with Pastor Dan Hooley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 10-11:00 a.m. Social distancing will be observed, and masks will be required.
