Janice (Jenkins) Baker, age 83, of North Canton, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, in her residence. She was born April 13, 1937, in Huntington, West Virginia to Harold and Juanita Jenkins. The family lived in Denison, Texas and Durant, Oklahoma, before relocating to Jackson, Ohio in 1945. Jan graduated from Jackson High School and Ohio University where she worked as a secretary to the OU Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Ruch Elliott, and later as a secretary to the Dean of Students at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Relocating to Toledo, Ohio, Jan worked as a legal secretary at the law firm of Williams, Robinson and Curphy.
She moved to Canton in 1965 and for nearly 20 years was employed as executive secretary at the Canton Rotary Club and became the club’s first female member in 1987. She retired from the club in 2000 but retained her membership. She was a Paul Harris Fellow.
She and her husband Richard H. Baker spent winters in Venice, Florida, for several years.
Former member of Canton Junior Woman’s Club, Canton Junior League and Church of the Savior United Methodist Church. She was an associate member of Venice Presbyterian Church in Venice, Florida. Locally she also attended services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Oakwood Country Club.
Survived by her husband Richard H. Baker; children, Kimberly (Ambrose) Perduk, Kathryn Bush, Will (Sue) VanNostran and stepdaughter Sue (Baker) Fischer; beloved grandchildren, A. Kyle Perduk, Noah (Michelle) Perduk, Gabriel Perduk & fiance’ Rachel Duncan, Drake and Lily VanNostran; siblings, Susan Jenkins, Michael (Mary) Jenkins.
The family is grateful and appreciates the wonderful care extended by Visiting Angels, Caring Senior Service, and Aultman Compassionate Care/Hospice Group for making it possible to have mom at home when she passed away.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 September 25, 2021, at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave N., Canton with Dr. Bruce Mont officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the Arnold Funeral Home Facebook page.
