James “Jim” Andrew Pocza, aged 86, became a special guardian angel to his loving family on October 16, 2023. Jim was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with family and attending events in which any of the grandchildren were involved - plays, concerts, football, and baseball games. He was well-liked everywhere he went, known for his bright smile, spirit of joy, and quick sense of humor.
Following graduation from Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Panama. After an honorable discharge, Jim attended many business education courses and graduated from Stark State College with a Human and Social Services degree. He also had significant education and training in Religion and graduated from the Benedictine Monastery School for Spiritual Directors. In addition, he founded Dialoguer Incorporated in Medina, Ohio, where he managed/directed the manufacture of durable medical equipment products for the healthcare industry. Of particular note was the development of a communication device for differently-abled children.
Jim retired from Cigna Healthcare for Seniors as a Senior Outreach Coordinator, spreading joy and brightening the lives of Seniors in 9 Ohio counties. Jim was a founding member of Stark Community Toastmasters Club #3342 and was elected as an Area Governor. He was a Reiki Master/Teacher and founded the Reiki Energy Center, taught many Reiki classes, and gave complimentary treatments and healings.
Following Jeanne’s breast cancer diagnosis, Jim wrote his feelings in poetry and has two published books. After Jeanne completed treatment, the two discovered metal detecting, which quickly became Jim’s favorite hobby. They spent many hours at Presque Isle, PA (and many other areas), searching for yet another “find.” When asked, he always said his best find was his wife!
An avid swimmer for 46 years, most recently at Myers Lake YMCA, where he made many friends and loved the camaraderie. Jim wouldn’t miss his beloved Tuesday morning breakfast club with the “Fab 5” at the Cafe on Whipple Rd.
Born in Painesville, Ohio, on January 18, 1937, Jim is survived by his wife, Jeanne Pocza, son Randy Pocza, daughter Annette (Terry) Reed, stepson Eric (Mindy) Hahn, stepdaughter Errin (Matt) Siske, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Jim’s family will receive friends at 9 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023, at Little Flower Catholic Parish, 2040 Diamond St NE, Canton, OH 44721. A mass will begin at 10 a.m., followed by entombment at North Lawn Cemetery in Canton. In place of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org . To celebrate his spirit of joy on your own, please tell a joke over some red raspberry ice cream or a piece of pie. Please sign the tribute page.
