Idell Libby Hendler, age 95 of Canton, passed away Sunday morning, March 19, 2023, in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. She was born February 19, 1928, in Petersburg, Virginia to Samuel and Dora (Rubin) Wilensky. Mrs. Hendler was a third grade Teacher and reading specialist in the Canton City School District where she was a Teacher of the Year recipient. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and her Master’s degree in reading from the University of Akron. During her collegiate career she was a Jennings Scholar and member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue and Shaaray Torah Sisterhood. Following her retirement, she was a longtime volunteer at the Downtown Canton Branch of the Stark County Library.
Preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Nathan Hendler in 2005; sisters, Rose and Florence. Survivors include sons, David (Diane) Hendler, Bruce (Kelly) Hendler; grandchildren, Joshua, Beth, Eliana (Ari); great grandchild Gavi; sister Shirley Wachtel; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home 1517 Market Ave N. with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Interment will be in Sherbondy Hill Cemetery. The funeral will be live streamed on the Arnold Funeral Homes Facebook page.
