Genevieve Riegler passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96 with her family, Community Hospice of Stark County along with special friend, Irene and cousin, Donna Kay made it possible.
For years she battled congestive heart failure. Gen was born February 5, 1925 in Massillon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin and Parents, Albert J and Eleanor Schwartz Warth, brothers, James, Raymond, and Frank. Survivors include brothers, Richard, and Ralph. She graduated from St. Joseph elementary and Lincoln High school. Gen was highly intelligent and had an important position with General Electric for more than 20 years. Gen was not only intelligent but also had movie star good looks.
It is impossible to talk about Gen without mentioning her beloved husband of many years, Alvin. Gen met Alvin at the old outdoor Starlight Ballroom at Myers Lake. Gen said in those days men wore suites and women dresses. Gen did not like Al at first but eventually his good looks, charm and honest loving character showed through.
Gen was the most generous person I have ever known; her whole life’s purpose was to help others in need. Gen was loved by many. Her neighbors were kind to her, especially Tim and Kathy Orn who lived on the west side. Kathy would visit Gen and her husband Tim would pick up fallen tree limbs and sometime mow her grass. Also, her good friend Pat Feller who resides across the street. Gen was very active in charitable institutions including the free meal program at St. John’s Basilica, Stark County Library, North Canton Playhouse and others. She donated large sums to individuals who needed help and donated to established charities including Boy’s Town, Walsh University, Mercy Hospital, Refuge of Hope, and others. Gen and Alvin would take in broken toys, fix them, and donate them to poor children. When shopping at the grocery, she would insist a young mother take 20 dollars to help with the bill.
Gen and Al would often babysit for her nieces and nephews: Michael, Peggy, Steven, Rebecca, Vincent, and Jo-Ellen
