Frederick Carlson Obituary

Frederick Arthur Carlson, On Monday, September 21, 2020 Frederick Arthur Carlson passed away peacefully at the age of 87.

     Fred was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Carl and Florence Carlson.  He was raised in Detroit, and spent his summers in Ludington, Michigan with his family.

     Fred majored in Philosophy at Wayne State University and Wheaton College, where he met his beloved wife LaVerne Janes.  They were married for more than 60 years and had four children.

     Fred was a lifelong believer, learner, and teacher of Judeo-Christian religion, and this was the cornerstone of his life.  He enjoyed several trips to Israel to expand his learning and understanding, and he also traveled to Africa to support mission work that was important to him.  Additionally, Fred was a member of several Messianic Congregations, one of which was Beth Tikkun Congregation and the other was Tikvat Yisrael Messanic Synagogue.  Fred previously served on the Board of Tikvat Yisrael.  He was a pioneer and bulwark of the Messianic Jewish movement in NE Ohio.

     Fred cared deeply about people and enjoyed many lifelong friendships.  His personality reflected his midwestern roots and values.  He was also passionate about photography, cars, and airplanes and enjoyed several air shows in Oshkosh, Wi. with his two sons. Fred was loved dearly by his family and many friends.

     Fred was predeceased by his wife, Laverne Ruth Carlson; parents, Carl and Florence Carlson; brother, Edwin Carlson; daughter in law, Gail Majeska Carlson; and nephew, Peter Stanfield.

     Fred is survived by his children, Catherine Carlson, Steven (Beth) Carlson, Karen (Bill) Merrill, Jon Carlson, and grandchildren, Kristen, Eric, Marybeth (Alec Bankes) and great grandchild, Milo, Lisa (and fiance' James), Brian (Erica), Bridget, Christine, Katherine, Matthew, and his sister Barbara, (Jonathan) Stanfield and niece Stephanie.  

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tikvat Yisrael Messianic Synagogue 9319 Mayfield Road Chesterfield, Ohio 44026.

     Graveside services are Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 1:30 pm in Sunset Hills Burial Park, 5001 Everhard Road NW, Canton, Ohio 44718.  Please sign the guest book.
