Elsie (Nisly) Bliler, passed into the arms of Jesus on 8-15-2023. Elsie was born on November 16, 1929, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Lizzie (Miller) and John E. Nisly, the fourth of eleven children.
The family moved from Hutchinson to Nowata, Oklahoma in the mid-1930’s. Life was not easy in Nowata but “The Originals” (as Elsie and her siblings were called by the next Nisly generation) always seemed nostalgic when talking about life in Nowata.
The Nisly family moved from Nowata to Hartville, Ohio, in 1942 where the children grew into adulthood. Elsie did not let the fact that she only had an eighth-grade education stop her from becoming an RN and working at Akron City Hospital for many years (her starting salary as an RN in the early 1960’s was $1.79/hr.). Elsie also worked in Liberia for several years as an employee of Goodyear Rubber and, after her retirement from Akron City, she earned traveling money by “granny-sitting.’
In 1970, she married Howard Bliler, and they had a son, Kevin Eugene Bliler, the light of Elsie’s life.
Elsie had a zest and enthusiasm for life, a thirst for travel and adventure, and an addiction to documenting her life through photography.
Elsie is survived by her son, Kevin Bliler of Akron; her sisters, Lorene Coblentz of Hartville, Ruby (Joe) Schrock of Uniontown, Alma (Mel) Miller of Walnut Creek, a brother John (Karen) Nisly of Akron, sister-in-law, Jan Patrick Nisly, many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. Her parents, her husband, six siblings, as well as brothers-in law and sisters in-law preceded Elsie in death.
Special thanks to niece Cindy Miller who was Elsie’s medical advocate and to her sisters Lorene and Ruby who were very dedicated in taking care of their older sister in these last years.
Services will be held at Evermore Community Church, Hartville Ohio, on Friday, 8-18-2023. Calling hours will begin at 9:30, and the service at 11:00. A meal will be served following the burial. Arnold Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
