Dr. Harry Osborne Obituary

Harry Alan Osborne, D.D.S., M.S., passed away peacefully at his home in Canton, Ohio on January 16th, 2022, after an accomplished and blessed life of 87 years.  Dr. Osborne was born March 9th, 1934, to Dr. Kenneth Leslie Osborne and Alice Marguerite (Filmer) of Youngstown and was a 1952 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.  He attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959.  He went on to receive a Master of Science degree in orthodontics from Northwestern University. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart Carol J Williams also of Youngstown. He would share 32 happy years of marriage and four children with Carol until her passing in 1989.  Dr. Osborne served as an orthodontist in the United States Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO from 1961 to 1963.  He moved with his family to North Canton, OH in 1963 where he founded what was to become, and remains today, North Canton’s most recognized orthodontic practice. Dr. Osborne was a long-time member and past president of the Stark County Dental Society, several times a delegate to the Ohio Dental Association, a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member, past treasurer, and past president of the Cleveland Society of Orthodontics.  He was also a fellow of the International College of Dentists.  In 2001, he received the John W. Wible Award and was inducted into the Distinguished Dental Service Academy of the Stark County Dental Society.  Dr. Osborne was a member and past president of the North Canton Jaycees.  He was a member of the North Canton Superintendent Advisory Committee and was chairman of the committee to pass the bond issue responsible for constructing the current North Canton Hoover High School. Dr. Osborne was a committed and active member and lay leader at Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton for many years.  He served as a member and past president of the North Canton YMCA Board of Directors.  In 1992 he married Linda (Leister) (Simmons) of Canton, whose love and companionship he enjoyed for the remainder of his life. He and Linda were active members of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton and of Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, FL. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife Carol J. (Williams) (1989).  He is survived by his loving wife Linda (Leister) (Simmons), his children Elizabeth A. Osborne, J. Scott (Maria) Osborne, Linda J. (Chris) Kollmann, and Dr. Robert (Amy) Osborne; his step-children William A. (Lisa) Simmons, Jr., John (Bobbie) Simmons, and Susan (David) Deibel; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren Aerin C. Morckel, K. Christian Morckel, Nathan R. Osborne, Spencer Harry Osborne, Jennifer (Robert) Ostrander, Katherine Deibel, Graham Deibel, Lilly Deibel, and William Deibel; as well as by his step-great grandson Austin Ostrander.  He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Robert (Ann) Williams, and Steve (Sue) Leister; and his nieces Jennifer (Garth) Geist and Kerry (Scott) Stanley.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 21 at the Arnold Funeral Home at 1517 Market Ave N from 5-7 PM, funeral services will be Saturday, January 22 at 11:00 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. David de Vries officiating, final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
