Carl A. Martin, age 84, of Canton, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Sprenger Health Care Center. He was born February 4, 1937, in Chester, West Virginia to Edwin T. and Marie (Cosgrove) Martin.
Carl worked independently for 30 years as an upholsterer and worked part time with the Canton Recreation Department. He served 13 years in the U.S. Navy as a firefighter aircrewman and parachute rigger in Vietnam. He co-founded the Canton Softball Hall of Fame and was inducted twice too! Everyone knew Carl loved his corner at 12th and Arlington SW where he provided a bench with a cover from rain for kids waiting for the school bus and gave away vegetables from his garden.
His wife of 64 years, Barbara preceded him in death in 2016. Survivors include daughters, Linda Martin-Anderson, Karen (Chris) Slezak; sons Jim and Mike Martin; mother of his grandchildren, Jennifer Cline; grandchildren, Miranda, Dylan and Kayla Martin. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Russ Martin.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 31, 4-6:00 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home 1517 Market Ave N., Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Stark County Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
