Andrew David Sommers

Andrew David Sommers, 71, entered the presence of Jesus on October 17, 2021. Know to all as “Dave,” he was born on November 11, 1949, to the late Andrew and Saloma Sommers. Dave was a devoted husband, dad, brother, and grandpa. He had the innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life, was willing to drop everything to help someone in need, and he enjoyed being a servant for the Kingdom. Dave served as associate pastor with Bethany Mennonite Church for 22 years, and worked as a water softener repairman and installer for 43 years with Mel’s Soft Water in Hartville.

Grandpa loved to tease, share his silly stories and jokes, and watch Looney Tunes with his 12 grandchildren (Lanay, Keragan, Althea, Roman, Maci, Paxton, Jackson, Theodore, Gavin, Clara, Jayden, and Maximus). Dave enjoyed music: singing, playing guitar, and listening to many different types of music. He longed for the day when he could once again see his wife, Nancy, who recently passed away in 2020, and celebrate new life together with Jesus.

He left a wonderful legacy for his family and will be missed by his children, Carol (Jim) Henry, Myron (Rhelda), Troy (Jen), and Randy (Rachel); his brothers and sisters, Ruth (James) Schrock, James (Dot) Sommers, Wayne (Doris) Sommers, Dennis (Becky) Sommers, Janet (Jr) Troyer, Joann (Tim) Schlabach; his extended family and friends.

Calling hours are Thursday 1-3 & 5-7 PM at Bethany Mennonite Church. Funeral services are Friday 10 AM in the church with Pastor Matt Zook officiating. Final viewing is Friday 9-9:30 AM. Interment is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Mennonite Church.
