Obituary

Willard Paul Sandbrink, 85, of North Canton, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Aultman Hospital following emergency surgery. Willard (known as Sandy) was born on March 14, 1930 in Dillsboro, Indiana to Martha & Harry Sandbrink, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Aurora, Indiana High School and Capital University, Columbus, OH. Following military service mainly in Ft. Leonard Wood MO, Sandy taught middle school in Columbus before joining the ranks of Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance (now Thrivent Financial) as a sales representative and, with his family, moving to North Canton in 1969 where he has resided since. Sandy is survived by his wife, Carol (Frey) Sandbrink, whom he married on June 22, 1957. Children: Debra (Matthew) Ranson and Scott (Andrea Snell) Sandbrink. Grandchildren: Kelsey and Sean Ranson. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Arlene & Jim Imes and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ann Louise (Elmo) Rumph, Ruth (Martin) Schulenborg, Lawrence (Hazel) Sandbrink, and Irvin (Jean) Sandbrink. From 1969 until recently Sandy actively served his community - he was a Boy Scout leader. Member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church and as a Lutheran Men in Mission member worked many long hours at the steam show project, golf outings, and rallies. Sandy was an avid gardener and liked nothing better than working outside. Together Sandy and Carol enjoyed traveling and visited Canada, and many countries in Europe and Africa in addition to seeing the States. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9th, in St. Jacob's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Leah Schafer officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, 1460 State St. NE, North Canton, OH 44721. Please sign the guest book.
