William R. Zingler Jr., age 88, of North Canton, died Saturday December 31, 2011. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 29, 1923 to William R. and Bessie (Hathaway) Zingler. He attended Kent State High School and Kentucky Military School in Lyndon, Kentucky and later Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) where he graduated in 1947. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries in the Battle of the Bulge. Survived by his wife of 65 years Betty; four daughters Becca and Jon Rice and Deb Lea all of North Canton, Nancy and Scott Cowgill of Carrollton, TX, Holly Jeffries of Ladson, SC; nine grandchildren, Colin and Erin Rice, Lindsay and Johnny DeFrances, Ned Lea, Eric and Shari Lea, Justin Jeffries, Hal and Jena Rhea, C.J. and Shahidrah Cowgill, Dakota and Mariah Cowgill, K.C. Cowgill; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was cremated and a private family memorial service was held. Final resting place is North Canton Cemetery.
