William R. Swinehart, age 89, of North Canton since 2000 and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday morning, February 18, 2010 in the comfort of his son's home. Bill was born on April 18, 1920 in New Philadelphia to the late William Leonard and Veda (Kaserman) Swinehart. Bill graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1938 and was an Army Veteran of WW II. He was a tool and die maker and during the war he worked for the Westinghouse Naval Ordinance Plant, then later with the Winters Foundry, the Timken Company and the Diebold Company where he retired in 1982. He was a past member of the First Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. He was a very generous, creative and compassionate man. There wasn't a problem he couldn't solve. His favorite pastime was roller skating which is how he met his wife Nina. He also loved working the racing pit crew through out the Eastern half of the United States with Mark Malcuit Racing. Preceded in death by his wife in 1972 Nina Madeline (Utterback) Swinehart and 4 brothers; Dave, Don, Howard, and Jack. He is survived by his sons Eric (Sandy) Swinehart of Strasburg, Tim (Sandra) Swinehart of Dover, Todd (Judy) Swinehart of North Canton, and Kevin Swinehart of Pauma Valley, CA; daughter-in-law Dorothy of Naples, FL; sisters Ruth Lane (John Trunk) of New Philadelphia and Maxine (Don) Baird of Dayton; brother Bob (Teresa) Swinehart of Sun City, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Stark County Hospice Team for their exemplary care.
