William Stanley Slesnick- Recycling Pioneer William Stanley (Stan) Slesnick, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 12, 1928, in Canton, Ohio, he resided in Canton for all of his life and also maintained a residence in Palm Beach, FL. Mr. Slesnick was a member of Temple Israel, The Canton Jewish Community Center, Arrowhead Country Club, and High Ridge Country Club. His parents, Sidney and Margaret Slesnick, preceded him in death. Lovingly survived and remembered by his wife of 58 years, Marlene, his brother, Robert Slesnick (Marilyn), his sons, Edward (Elizabeth) and Jeffrey (Terry ), his five grandchildren, Stephen, Jonathan, Andrew, Rachel, and Isabel, and numerous relatives and friends. In 1957, Stanley opened what is now Canton's oldest family-owned metal recycling business, Slesnick Iron and Metal. He was also actively involved in Slesnick Structural Steel that opened in 1980. He continued to work in both businesses up until his final days. He was deeply committed and generous to his family, his community, and to his numerous employees and customers throughout his life. He lived life to the fullest always enjoying traveling, boating, and golfing. A special thank you to the people at Aultman Hospice and to Penny Toth for their care and ompassion during Stanley's last days. Private services were held on Friday, March 6, 2009 at North Lawn Cemetery with Rabbi Leah Herz and Rabbi John pitzer officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the Rabbi John H.
