Quass, Jr.
June 26, 1932 – July 27, 2011
William J. Quass, Jr., 79, of Bolivar, passed away Wednesday July 27th, 2011 after a period of declining health. Bill was born in North Industry on June 26th, 1932 to the late Jennie V. (Evans) and William J. Quass Sr. He was the grandson of Quass Sheet Metal Shop founder Charles E. Quass and wife Mary. (Henshillwood) A graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1950, he enlisted in the Navy and served from 1952-1956 aboard destroyer escort U.S.S. Ulvert M. Moore. He worked in the forge shop at The Timken Company for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Canton Masonic Lodge #60, and former member and Elder at Reedurban Presbyterian Church. He resided for 25 years in Los Lunas, NM where the coffee gang from "Henrietta's" restaurant remember him as ornery but fun. He loved jazz and big band music and having been in the Navy, he loved watching "N.C.I.S." enjoying coffee as much as Gibbs. He is survived by daughters Michele Kearns of Brunswick, Nancy (Reginald) Reynolds of Lufkin, TX and Kim Gearhart of East Sparta, sister; Phyllis Greene of Canton, grandsons Maxwell (Maggie) of Nacogdoches, TX and Nicholas (Laci) Reynolds of Diboll, TX.Granddaughters; Alissa and Kayla Gearhart, and Hannah Salmen of East Sparta and one great-grandson Kaden Thornhill of Diboll, TX. Nephews; Tom Eframedes of Canton, Daniel (Donna) McManus and their daughter Shelby, of Royce City, TX, Aunts; Roberta (Elden) Taylor of Canton and Betty Quass of Spring Hill, Florida and many cousins and friends in Ohio, Florida and New Mexico. Grandpets; Rommie Kearns and Zuko Gearhart. Mary Lou (Maxwell, Quass) Bendroth, the mother of Michele and Nancy. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by beloved wife Jacqueline, son-in-law Joseph F. Kearns, and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday August 5, 2011 at Reedurban Presbyterian Church in Canton. In accordance to his wishes, Bill and Jackie's cremains will be interred in West Lawn Cemetery on Friday August 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. where a military service will take place. The Rev. Dr. Darrell Holmes will officiate both services. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Reedurban Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 1145 Perry Dr. N.W. Family and friends will meet for lunch after the service Friday, August 5th.
