October 25, 1931 – June 16, 2012
William Robert Moore, age 80, of Canton, passed away peacefully after an extended illness surrounded by his loved ones. After leaving Lincoln High School, he served in the United States Navy for four years. William worked as an engineer and tire molding design at Union Metal, Firestone and Haddel & Associates. He finished his career at General Tire after many years of service. William was an avid bowler in Akron and Canton for many years. He was a member of Eagles of Louisville, VFW Post 3747 and Amvets 124 both of Canton. William was preceded in death by his parents William S. and Lela (McClain) Moore, his beloved wife Ruth J. (Sweitzer) Moore, brother, Donald Moore, sisters; Beverly Sweitzer and Dortha Faye Staugh. He is survived by son, Thomas R. (Charlene) Moore, daughter, Rhonda K. (Ronald) Whitmer, and sister Sara Jane Cook all of Canton. Six grandchildren; Lori Moore of Cleveland, Joshua (Tracey) Moore of Lincoln, CA, Jennifer (Thomas) Peck of Columbus, Carissa Moore of Massillon and Eric (Monica) Whitmer of Canton. (Eric is currently in the National Guard serving in Afghanistan) and Cory Whitmer of Canton. Five great- granddaughters and his first great-grandson due any day. Funeral service will be11:00 a.m. Thursday, in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. with Rev. Jeff Bullock officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Wednesday 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
