Obituary

William L. "Bill" Maag, age 80, of Strongsville, OH, retired NASA Aerospace Engineer died August 24, 2009. The son of the late Oscar L. and Mabel R. Maag, Bill was born May 1, 1929 in Canton. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, 1947; The College of Wooster, 1951, BS in chemistry; The Ohio State University, 1953, MS chemical engineering. Before joining NASA he worked for Shell Oil in St. Louis, MO, and in California. While at NASA he researched thermodynamics and combustion for the space agency as part of the 1969 Apollo project. He took great interest in the 40th anniversary celebration of that space launch. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the OSU Alumni. He was an avid golfer, bowler and reader and traveled widely. Bill was of Presbyterian faith. Bill is survived by a sister Louise (Ray) Sherban, North Canton; nephew Craig (Margaret) Sherban, Greenville, SC; niece Joan (Dan) Junge, Powell, OH; great nephews Alan (Christy) Sherban, Santa Clarita, CA; Cameron (Jena) Sherban, Columbia, SC; Matthew Sherban, Cleveland; great niece Laura Baggs and great-nephew Jonathan Baggs, Powell, OH; great-great nephews Ethan and Timothy Sherban, CA. A memorial service will be held at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave.,N, on Saturday, August 29 at 2 PM with Pastor David de Vries officiating. Calling hours are one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
