William Cochrane, age 91, died Tuesday morning in the Canton Regency. Born to the late William and Margaret (Aitken) Cochrane in Akron, OH November 20, 1915 he was known as "Wink" or "Winkie" His parents emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland to Akron in 1913. Bill had many jobs, newsboy, grocery clerk, claims adjuster and attorney. Bill was a graduate of Akron South High School, attended night school at Akron University, Akron Law School and William McKinley School of Law. He was a practicing attorney for fifty five years. Bill came to Canton in 1948 and was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, Trustee, was involved with the Mariners and Presbyweds. He was also an Army Veteran of World War II, was a member and treasurer of Stark County Bar Assoc., Ohio State Bar Assoc. and had been Assistant County Prosecutor, and Juvenile Court Referee in the Domestic Relations Court. Bill was a man of strong convictions, and loved Heggy's Chocolates. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen Cochrane; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry L (Suellen) Wassem of Beaver Creek, OH and Mrs. Dominick (Barbara) Palombo of Canton; three grandchildren, Heath Wassem, Heather Wassem and Amy Palombo Trostle; four great-grandchildren; brother, James Cochrane of Brecksville, OH. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007 in Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. David L. de Vries and Rev. Douglas A. Patton officiating. A private interment will be for the family. Friends may call on Saturday in the church parlor from 9-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Wakonda, c/o Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, OH 44702.
