William Kay Dieringer, age 79 of Canton, passed away Wednesday morning, November 21, 2012 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 12, 1933 in Minerva to Wadell and Olive (Baughman). Bill graduated from Minerva High School and in 1959 graduated from the University of Cincinnati with his degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Army and was an Electrical Engineer in the Communication Department with American Electric Power, retiring in 1992. In 1973 Bill and his friend John Shorb built an electric car out of a Volkswagon that Bill drove daily at a cost of a penny per mile. Bill was a member of the American Legion, Post #44, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in North Canton and he received his amateur radio license in 2006. Mr. Dieringer spent his winters in Cape Coral, Florida where he was a very active member of the German American Club, was their volunteer of the month in February 2005 and was the president of the Schutzen-Verein G.A.S.C. for 2001-2002. Bill loved to dance especially in his lederhosen during the October Fest in Cape Coral, Florida where he was also in charge of the sound system for the past eighteen years. He is survived by his wife Susan; sons, David of Columbus, Tom of Brewster, John of Canton and grandsons, Tyler and James. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Stark County.
