Walter E. Peterson, age 92, of North Canton, passed away peacefully March 11, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born July 19, 1923 in Bethel Park, PA to the late Teodore and Sophie Petrovich. Walter moved to Canton in 1927 after the death of his father in a coal mine explosion. It was in Canton, where he met and married his lifelong partner, best friend and the love of his life, Jean Fewell June 13, 1945. Walter was a proud member of the Army Air Corps serving his country during WWII and survived after being a prisoner of war. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad for 39 years as a brakeman/conductor which he truly enjoyed. Walter also owned and operated a landscape business and was a 3rd Degree Mason. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and golf, but most of all he cherished any time spent with his family upon retirement. Walter and Jean enjoyed their winter trips to Bradenton, FL to visit with relatives and new found friends. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the outstanding nurses and staff of Bethany Nursing Home for their loving care and support during the last six months of Walters's life. We also would like to express our deepest thanks to the nurses and staff of Crossroads Care Hospice. In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by his son, Gene Peterson and siblings; Helen Cowen, Mary Sebek, John and Kay Petrovich. His is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean (Fewell) Peterson. Son and daughter-in-law; Roger and Gloria Peterson of North Canton. 3 granddaughters, Valerie Pape of Louisville, Jennifer Peterson of Columbus and Johanna Peterson of Louisville. 3 Great-grandsons, Travis, Damon and Evan Pape also of Louisville. Sister, Alice Blazekovich of Pacifica, CA also survives. Funeral Service will be 12 noon Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW with Dr. Bruce Mont officiating.
