Obituary

Vivian Ora Werstler Graber

Vivian was surrounded by her family when she went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 24, 2018. She was born on July 10, 1925 to Ira and Ora (Bishop) Werstler and grew up on a dairy farm in Hartville. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Glenn Graber, parents, 11 brothers & sisters, and a great grandchild.

Vivian met her husband, Glenn at Hartville School, where she was a majorette. They got married on May 25, 1942, and were together until his death in 1997. They had 7 children: Cynthia (Larry) Ringer, Jerry, Twila (Ron) Beahm, Charlotte (John) Schlabach, Tom (Frankie), Laquita (Larry) Pickard, and Kevin, 15 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. The family lived on a vegetable farm where Vivian cared for her family. Many times she would be cooking for a few and end up with a house full to feed. (A few fish and bread can go a long way!). She also ran the family Health Food store which they had for many years.

Vivian loved God, being with her family, friends, laughter, music, cooking, gardening, playing games, and crafts. Her love of music included being choir director at the Hartville Church of the Brethren for 18 years and singing in the choir all the other years. She also served as an assistant play director, children's Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She led the family in singing programs that were performed at Church conferences, nursing homes, etc. She directed community choirs, was in charge of AARP dinners, and belonged to card and garden clubs.

Glenn and Vivian opened their home to help a number of friends over the years. She enjoyed entertaining and was known for her Christmas lunches, complete with handcrafted favors, and her liver and onion dinners. When Glenn came home with fish from Lake Erie, in just a few hours there were close to a hundred people at their house cleaning, cooking, and eating fish and french fries. They took their Sunday School Class and the church's youth groups to their cabin in Canada. Catching, cleaning, and cooking fish was a first for many. Vivian loved baking fresh blueberry pies for them. And what campfires and water fights they had up there!

She gave us all her treasured love and the gift of music. She said please and thank you every time we helped her to the very end. She was an example to live and die by.

The family wishes to thank friends, Community Hospice, and care givers for their gentle care of our mother and grandmother.

Calling Hours are Wednesday, November 28, 4 to 7 pm and one hour prior to services on Thursday (10 – 11am) all at the Hartville Church of the Brethren. Funeral Services are Thursday 11am in the church with Pastor Anthony DiMarco officiating. Final resting place is Mt. Peace Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Vivian's name to The Hartville Church of the Brethren, PO Box 775, Hartville, OH 44632 or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663
