VIRGINIA HARRIET UEBING Age 93 of Canton passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011, in Bethany Nursing Home. Born June 20, 1918, in Canton to the late Heinrick (Henry) and Harriet (Wynn) Uebing, Virginia was a life resident of Canton. She was a member of First Christian Church and a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Legacy Chapter, No.596, of North Canton. Virginia graduated from McKinley High School in 1936 and attended Kent State University where she received her education to become an elementary school teacher. Her first teaching assignment was at Number 9 school house in Beaver Local School District, Columbiana County. One year later she taught at Moultrie, Ohio and thereafter at East Canton Elementary School for 2 years. Her teaching career spanned 35 years in Canton City Schools, 31 of those years at Summit Elementary. Virginia traveled around the globe visiting seven continents. She studied the customs and lifestyles of people and, in particular, their dress, music and dance. Between work and travel, Virginia taught and competed in square dancing and international folk dancing. Gratitude is sincerely extended to the staff and administration of Bethany Nursing Home for the comfort and care given to Virginia and for her opportunity to learn, teach, and share during the last nine years of her life. Funeral services will be Tuesday 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Final resting place is West Lawn Cemetery.
