Obituary

Virginia (Gina) Gregory, 83, passed away peacefully in her home at Congress Lake, Hartville, on Tuesday evening May 12, 2009. She was born June 5, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, to Philip and Ethel (Gould) Smyth. Virginia graduated from LaSalle Junior College in Boston and Katie Gibbs Secretarial School in New York. Following graduation, she worked in the Chrysler Building as an executive secretary. She then served as the secretary to the Pastor of Manhasset Congregational Church in New York. Mr. and Mrs. T. Raymond Gregory married in 1949 and moved to North Canton in 1957. Virginia was a founding member and the first recording secretary of the Aultman Hospital Women's Board. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in North Canton and taught Sunday school at North Canton Community Christian Church. She was currently a member of Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton. Virginia was a member of Congress Lake Club where she had been an active member of the Garden Club, Bowling League and the sailing program. She loved needle pointing and sailing, in which she instructed others and was very successful in racing. Virginia and Raymond sailed throughout the world together for over 70 years. She is survived by her husband, Raymond, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 13, 2009; her five children, Margie and Mike Donley of Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, Steve and Lisa Gregory of North Canton, Dan Gregory of Sacramento, California, Ginger Gregory of North Canton, George and Lori Gregory of Marlboro Township; brother, Philip and Ann Smyth of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Mark Donley and Megan Donley, both of Charleston, South Carolina, Melissa Donley of St. Petersburg, Florida, Matt Gregory (Tara) of North Canton, Amy Porter (Scott) of Greentown, Mackenzie King of Brooklyn, New York, Linzee Steinmetz (Tim) of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Gregory of Marlboro Township; great grandchildren, Madeline and Mitchell Gregory, Kaylee and Kylie Porter, as well as her faithful K-9 companion Katie. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the aides and nurses in Aultman Hospital Home Care and Hospice programs for the loving care they gave to Virginia. Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton with Rev. Larry Morrison officiating.
