Virginia Ann Fick Fellows, age 80, died April 6, 2008. She is survived by her six children and their families: Ann Fellows of Henderson, NV; John and Holly (Hoover) Fellows, Jr. and their children, Benjamin and Gabriel, of Albuquerque, NM; Steven and Kristine (Lauritzen) Fellows and their children, Nicholas, Spencer, and Alexander, of Canton; David and Helga (Tan) Fellows and their son, Jake, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Dr. Kay Fellows of Interlachen, FL; and Barbara and Michael Dodge and their daughter, Addison, of Henderson, NV; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Robert Brumitt of Wilmette, IL; brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol Fick of Greensboro, GA; cousin, Norman Jackson of Canton; brother-in-law, John Lothrop of Canton; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John H. Fellows, her parents, John and Lois (Pence) Fick, her sister-in-law, Kathryn "Katie" Lothrop, and a granddaughter, Caitlin Fellows. Ginny was born in Canton on October 19, 1927, and graduated from Lehman High School. She earned a B.S. degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While at Northwestern, Ginny was actively involved in women's sports, but at that time, women were not awarded varsity letters. Years later, Ginny received her letter and was inducted into the N-Club of Northwestern University for outstanding service and allegiance to Northwestern as a Wildcat athlete. After graduating, Ginny returned to Ohio and devoted her considerable talents to making a difference in the Canton community. She served on a variety of boards and organizations. She was the Secretary to the Board of Trustees of Aultman Hospital, Chairman of the Stark County Foundation, Chairman of the Canton Medical Education Foundation, and Trustee of the Canton Scholarship Foundation. She was a president of the YWCA, Junior League, Aultman Hospital Women's Board, and Walsh College Women's Committee. She also served on the boards of the YWCA, Friends of the Library, Channels 45/49 Public Television, and United Way of Stark County. The Junior League honored Ginny as Woman of the Year, and she received the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Award of Merit for sustained voluntary community service. Whether you knew her as Ginny, Grandma, Aunt Gin or Mom, all of us who loved her will remember her quick wit, athletic passion, fondness for purple, crossword puzzles, bridge clubs, Christmas extravaganzas, and exceptional generosity. And was she ever funny. We know a wild assortment of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice, rats, baby rabbits, and one special monkey are celebrating the reunion of Ginny and Johnny. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. in Calvary Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Morgan officiating. A reception celebration of Ginny's life will be held at the church immediately following the service. A private interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The family hopes that remembrances might benefit Stark County through contributions to The Stark Community Foundation, 400 Market Avenue North, Suite 200, Canton, OH 44702. Special thanks to Norman Jackson for his devotion to Ginny, and to her many loving caregivers at Altercare of Nobles Pond. (Arnold 330-456-7291) www.arnoldfuneralhome.com
