Virginia V. Bates nearly age 93, of Canton Regency, passed away Wednesday November 21, 2012. Born Nov 23rd, 1919, in El Paso, Texas to the late Zelda Cain Vandevere Barton and the late Dr. William E. Vandevere, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, Dr. Edgar C. Bates; and three sons, David, Gary, and Dr. Lyn. V. Bates (Celeste); and her sister Nancy Cashin. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Flagg (Jim), three grandchildren, Christine Williams, Jennifer Crane and Brett Bates, five great-grandchildren, siblings Janet Englefield (Bill), Bette Adams and Bill Barton; and seventeen nieces and nephews. Virginia was a longtime historian for Shady Hollow Country Club. She was an excellent synchronized swimmer and choreographer for swim shows at Shady Hollow and had a zest for life experiences such as traveling abroad and studying about everything that came her way. She authored manuscripts for her family on their ancestry, proper etiquette and several others. She loved her family passionately.
