Verl M. Shearer, age 86, formerly of Canton recently of Sun City Center, FL died Sunday morning October 14, 2012 in his residence in Sun City Center. Born in Waynesburg, OH to the late Cleo & Mildred (Wilson) Shearer. A veteran of WW II having served in the Air Force, Verl was a 1944 graduate of Timken High School and received his Master's Degree in Vocational Education from Kent State University. He retired from teaching at Timken High School. He was a committeeman for the church (First United Church of Christ) Boy Scout troop for a number of years. Verl was a 50 year member of both Wm. McKinley Lodge # 431 F & AM, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, he was also a member of Egypt Shrine Temple, Tampa, FL, had served as Chaplain of Sun City Center Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter: Sheridan Worthington, brother Nevin Shearer and a sister Donna Hevlow. Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Joan (Platz) Shearer. Daughter: Leslie Devlin. Grandchildren: Heather Kindl, Todd Worthington, Brian & James Sayre. Great grandchildren: Grace & Simon Kindl, and Bobby Worthington. A Masonic graveside service will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 1:00 P.M.
