Velma Elizabeth Slabaugh went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Born in Dayton, Ohio, November 5, 1924, she was 84 years old. Preceded in death at the age of 9 months by her father Noah, mother Elizabeth Rutrough, and siblings Virginia, Robert, Paul and Clinton in an automobile accident in 1925. Also preceded in death by the father and mother who raised her Noah and Nora Royer; son Frederick Slabaugh, and grandchildren Michelle and David Slabaugh. Survived by her husband Clarence Slabaugh; sons David (Karen), John (Karen), Joe (Debi), Jim (Shirley), and Bill; daughters Jean (Gary Thomas) and Sue Myers; grandchildren Jill (Dustin), Jenny (D.J.), Jamie, Mitchell, Jason, Lizzie, Michael, Abbie, Brent, Luke, John, Megan (Matt) and Cory; great-grandchildren Jayden, Camryn, Maria, Emma and Annabelle; sister Evelyn Lesher of Chambersburg, PA and nieces and nephews. Velma enjoyed cooking and gardening and spending time with her family. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home Hartville and Saturday at Grace Brethren Church of Middlebranch an hour before services 10-11 AM. Funeral services are Saturday 11 AM at Grace Brethren Church of Middlebranch with Pastor Jeffrey Brown officiating. Final resting place is Mount Peace Cemetery.
