Thomas Curtis, 79, of Canton, passed away Tuesday afternoon at home, surrounded by family and close friends. Born January 1, 1947, in Alliance to Dawson Thomas and Annette (Hartzell) Curtis, he graduated from Alliance High School in 1965 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Kent State University and master’s degree in education from Kent State University. Tom was an Industrial Arts teacher beginning in Alliance then Copley and retired from Plain Local Schools in 1998. He was a dedicated teacher and took students to many State of Ohio competitions and received top honors numerous times. He was a past member of Stark County Ski and Bicycle Clubs and numerous educational associations.
Survivors include his best friend and confidant for the past eleven years, Cindy Bloch and former student and lifelong friend, Marling Weber (Sheri); children, Tracy Curtis-Warner; Thomas S. Curtis (Marie); brother, Bob Curtis (Billie), grandchildren, Logan & Quinn Curtis-Warner.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Monday October 5 at 3:00p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home 1517 Market Ave N., Canton 44714 with Pastor Dan James and Pastor Andrew Dalrymple officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service 2-3:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodlawn Church, 2800 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708. The family extends special thanks to Advantage Hospice, particularly Rachel and Miriah, for their compassionate care of Tom.
