Thelma Marie Anderson, age 96, of Canton passed away Sunday night December 3, 2006 at the Inn at Belden Village. She was born in Loys Corner outside of Girard, Ohio on October 10, 1910 to the late Lee Chester and Eva (Mealy) Underwood and attended Miami University prior to her marriage. In 1962 she returned to school earning a BA from Youngstown University and a Masters from Kent State University in 1965, then PHD from Kent in 1969. Dr. Anderson was Emeritus Professor of English and taught at Kent State, Stark Campus from 1969-1979. She was a member of Church of the Savior, United Methodist. Dr. Anderson was a member of East Palestine No. 381, Order of the Eastern Star and former Grand Page of Ohio. Other memberships include College Club, Woman's Club, Auxiliary to William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum, Kappa Delta Pi, and Stark County Retired Teachers Association. Preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Anderson in 1973, brother, Dr. Lee Chester Underwood and sister, Eva June LaFollette; she is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Thelma "Tedi" Spotswood of Canton, Mrs. Gail McKinnis of Durhan, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Melody Anderson of Anaheim Hills, CA; grandchildren, Karen (John) Becker of VA, Mark (Laurie) Spotswood of MA, John (Nicole) Spotswood of CA, David (Beth) McKinnis of CT, Peter (Alicia) McKinnis of NC, Erik Anderson, Bret Anderson, and Holly Anderson all of CA; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Dr. William Harvey officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
