Susan Winick, 88, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly at her home on March 12, 2025.
Known to many in the Stark County area as "The Puppy Lady" Sue lived a life to be celebrated. In her almost 89 years, she maintained a fierce spirit of enthusiasm for life. She was a strong and courageous lady, and a loving wife, mother, sister,and friend to many. She was born in Canton, Ohio on May 5, 1936, to the late Edward Grossman and Pauline Cooper Grossman. She was a 1954 graduate of McKinley High School. Afterspending two years at The Ohio State University, Sue married the man of her dreams, Harold "Hal" Winick on May 27, 1956. Early in her career she was employed as a legal secretary atseveral local law firms. She then became her husband's business partner throughout the years in ventures that included Hal's Shoes, The Drawbridge Lounge & Wine Barrel, and WinickIndustrial Supply Company. During this time, she also became very active with the Stark County 4H Saddle Club supporting her daughter's love for showing horses. In 1990 Sue pursued her love of training and showing dogs (which she did for many years prior) and opened her own puppy training business called Pre-School Puppy Training. For over 35 years, Sue helped thousands of people train their puppies with many of whom became lifelong customers. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hal, her dear sister Nancy Grossman, sister-and brother-in-law Doris and Herman Kushner, and mother- and father-in-law Frances and Louis Winick.
She is survived by son Dr. Michael (Cynthia) Winick of Canton, daughter Lori (Mark) Green of Hebron, Ohio, grandsons Steve (Liz) Winick of New Albany, Ohio, Zach Green of New York, New York, Josh Green (Ally Meyer) of Columbus, Ohio, her dear friend (and "second son") Danny Lewitzke, as well as her sweet fur babies Annie and Reggie.
Sue was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren! Over the years she went to soccer games, drama productions, band performances, graduations, and birthday parties. Sue's involvement with her family made her life complete.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21st from 11am-12:15pm at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave. N, Canton, Ohio, 44714. Funeral services will follow at 12:30pm at the funeral home. The family will go to the cemetery privately where Susan will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Hal.
