Steven E. Zerby, age 62, of North Canton died Monday after suffering a massive heart attack. Steve was born in Canton to the late Louis & Gertrude (Whitmer) Zerby, was a 1964 graduate of McKinley High School and also graduated for the Akron Barber College. Steve had been employed with the Stark County Sheriff's Department and then joined the Jackson Township Police Department as one of its founding members, serving as Chief in the late 1990s. Steve was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a true and avid hearts and poker player. Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years: Terry (Shahan) Zerby of the residence. Daughter: Wendy (Bill) Gaff of Canton. Son: Steven (Beth) Zerby of Findlay, OH. Three grandchildren: Alexandra, Alexander & Breann. Two brothers: Louie (Deborah) & Dave (Marlyn) Zerby all of Canton. Numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours for Steve will be on Friday from 3-7 PM in North Canton Church of Christ 1301 E. Maple St., N. Canton, OH. Fraternal Order of Police Service will be at 7:15 PM followed by a funeral service at 7:30 P.M. with Mr. Rod Stockdale officiating. A graveside committal service will be Saturday 11:00 A.M. in Forest Hill Cemetery.
