Steven James Mercer, age 60, of North Canton, passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Center at Aultman Woodlawn after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family at his bedside. Steven graduated from Glenwood H.S. in 1969 and began a tool & die apprenticeship at The Hoover Co., retiring in 2006. Steven loved traveling, especially to Florida to visit with parents and sister & brother-in-law, and also enjoyed leisure days of fishing and camping at Berlin Lake with friends & family. Steven was Past Master of William Hoover Lodge 770, long standing member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Legacy Chapter 596 of Eastern Star, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2223. Survivors who will miss him deeply are wife Susan of North Canton, parents Jim & Norma Mercer of Estero, Fl., daughters Christine (Mike) Feigl of Akron, Brenda (Don) Jordan of Louisville, sisters Linda (Ed) Halter of Estero, Fl., Becky (Lou) Hentsch of Mogadore, step children Wendy (Gene) Cardi of Canton, Debi (Matt) Hawrysko of Canton, Roger Beiter II of Canton, mother-in-law and good friend, Elsie Davis of N. Canton, sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Roger) McClure of N. Canton, Carolyn (John) Perlog of Louisville, and loving grandchildren Jen Jordan, Kaitlyn & Owen Dexter, Nicholas Feigl, Vincent & Jillian Cardi, Jack Beiter, nieces Angela Rosza, Kelsey Hentsch and nephews Tyler and Ryan Hentsch and Devin Halter, and many friends. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to family & friends for their caring support and help throughout Steven's illness and to his wonderful medical teams at Aultman Hospital, Aultman Woodlawn and Compassionate Care at Aultman Woodlawn. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 1 to 3 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. A masonic service will be 12:45 p.m. In accordance with Steve's wishes a private service and interment will take place for the family.
