Stephen J. Toth, 90, of Canton, OH died in Mercy Medical Center Monday, July 18 due to age related medical complications. He was born in Scalp Level, PA on December 15, 1925 to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Toczky) Toth. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Steve is survived by his brother, John Toth of Canton, OH; his eight children: Catherine (Lee) Zimmerman of Canton; Stephen (Sue) Toth of Columbus, OH; Michael (Lisa) Toth of Akron, OH; Tina (Marlin) Wengerd of Dalton, OH; Patricia (Jim) Bishop of Boynton Beach, FL; Daniel (Marja) Toth of Smyrna, TN; Patrick (Stephanie) Toth of Akron, OH; Elizabeth (Phil) Kirk of Springboro, OH; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Delphina; his parents, his brothers Paul and Andrew Toth; and his sisters Margaret Toth, of Canton, OH and infant sister Elizabeth Toth of Meco, PA .
He was a longtime active member of Little Flower Catholic Parish in Middlebranch, OH where he served as a Lector, member of the Men's Club and Festival Committee, and with the rectory construction.
He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in Texas and Hawaii. Steve married his wife Delphina Cornacchia in Windber, PA upon returning from his service. The couple moved to Canton in 1949, where Steve was a certified welder with The Timken Co., E.W.Bliss Co., Goodyear Airship Division, Virgil Fike House Moving Co., the Diamond Portland Cement Company and retired from the Ford Motor Co.
Steve cherished his family and was loved and respected deeply by them in return. He was known for his deep Catholic faith, warm sense of humor, generosity in helping his family, friends and neighbors, skill as a jack-of-all-trades, and for his good nature, kindness and friendliness toward everyone he knew. Steve was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and of the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville, OH and Mass of Christian Burial at Little Flower Parish Saturday at 11:00 am with visitation at the church one hour prior. Final resting place is Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Flower Parish Food Cupboard.
