Simon G. ("Cy") Cohen Simon G. ("Cy") Cohen, age 90, passed away on Saturday, March 20, from congestive heart failure at ManorCare Health Services in Elk Grove Village, IL. He was born in Canton on January 8, 1920 to the late David and Fannie (Shifman) Cohen. He is survived by beloved wife of 63 years Jennie (Jeanette Lurie), daughter Diana (Wayne) Schneidman and son Michael Cohen (Robert Maszczak). Loving zayde to grandchildren Faye Rivka Harris, Herschel J. Harris and Stuart Eli Harris, step-grandchildren Jennifer Schneidman, Kimberly Schneidman, Jeffrey (Ashley) Schneidman and Jennifer Stephens, three step-great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Shane, and sisters-in-law Sara Orlinoff and Martha Cohen. His brother, Arthur H. Cohen, preceded him in death. Cy attended McKinley High School and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Europe, during World War II. In Canton he was co-owner of the Lawrence Road Market and later Cy's Kosher Delicatessen. He also represented several companies in wholesale sales to groceries and restaurants, most recently Canton Hotel and Restaurant Supply. In recent years he and Jennie resided at Alexian Village of Elk Grove Village, near his children. He celebrated his 90th birthday in January with a luncheon at which family from around the country reminisced with local friends, sharing happy memories and jokes. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home with Hazzan Bruce D. Braun officiating. Burial at the Canton Hebrew Cemetery will immediately follow.
