Obituary

Shirley G. Jordy, age 94, passed away October 9, 2025 at Aviva Hills in Canton. Preceded in death by her husband of 66 yrs, Russell "Bill" Jordy (Ret. Captain Canton Fire Dept); siblings Elmer Mottice, Virginia Adler and Arlene Brown. Survived by sister Eleanor Zimmerman, children Russell "Bill" Jordy, Jr. (Barb) of Malvern OH, Deborah (Jimmy) Steven of Augusta OH, and Diane (Tom) Miller of North Canton OH.

A loving and caring mother, wife and sister, she will be greatly missed by many. Shirley loved spending time at Guilford Lake at their cottage for nearly 30 years just relaxing, entertaining friends and family, or taking a pontoon boat ride. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan, loved Christmas music any time of the year, and more recently enjoyed watching Mark Harmon on NCIS re-runs. She also really enjoyed the occasional shopping trip with her daughters, and was a remarkable deal-finder of fine apparel. Christmas was her favorite time of year when she looked forward to hosting family and putting out an impressive spread of food.  She was an avid walker where early-on she formed a great friendship with her walking partner and longtime neighbor, Clarice Lough.

She will be remembered for her soft-spoken sense of humor and unwavering support of her beloved husband (Bill) who was a natural-born jokester and was always trying to make her smile. Shirley was a member of First Church of the Resurrection in Canton (formerly First United Church of Christ).

Heartfelt appreciation goes out to the caring staff of Aviva Hills, and special thanks to Debbie (RN) and staff from Compassionate Care Hospice. A private service will be held for immediate family.
